In an earlier post I mentioned a move of a web site to a different web host Moving a web site to another host<.
Today after monitoring for a couple of days I can say the transmission went 'mostly' according to plan.
The checklist was very helpful but there were still a couple of things that had to be fine tuned;
- The new host use of software to find the new domain needed access to the .htaccess from another server and the .htaccess of the site was protected with a .htaccess deny all.
- The cron jobs had to be specified in a different manner. That they had to be specified in a different notation from the old server was no news, but that they had to be specified differently from how the new host documented that they had to be specified ... well .... by definition documentation lags a bit behind reality.
For the rest all is well at the new host and they are a noticeably faster with the php/MySQL scripts.
